Brand La Roche-Posay This spring, it is once again taking center stage with one of the most important projects the dermocosmetic world has to offer - free preventive check-ups. skin tags within the framework of the initiative #SaveYourSkinAnd if you think this is just a marketing ploy, let us quickly convince you otherwise.
Why should you be concerned about one small skin tag?
Simply: because it is Skin cancer is one of the most dangerous, but also one of the most curable forms of cancer. – if it is detected early enough, of course. Experts claim that the chance of recovery is very 99 percent, if we act in time. And no, this is not a number made up by an optimistic PR person.
For the fourth consecutive year, the #SaveYourSkin project combines science, common sense, and sunscreen, with the goal of raising public awareness about the dangers of excessive sun exposure and the importance of regular check-ups. Over 2,500 inspections have been conducted in the last three years, of which there are 89 marked as suspicious – which means that these 89 people could be writing very different life stories today.
Melanoma: a danger with enviable visibility
Assist. Nebojša Đurišić, MD., a specialist in dermatovenerology from European Center for Dermatovenerology in Koper, warns: "The number of melanoma cases in Slovenia is steadily increasing. Around 600 people are newly diagnosed with the disease every year, but what worries us most is the fact that many still come to the doctor (too) late."
Too late, because we said to ourselves: “Ah, I’ve had this sign since I was little, it’s no big deal.” And so we miss the train that leads to healing. So let the sun only warm you from the outside – but not burn your conscience.
UV radiation: the invisible enemy with sunglasses
Excessive exposure to UV rays (yes, even in tanning beds!) remains the main culprit for skin cancer. Just one bad sunburn in childhood doubles the risk. Fair skin, lots of marks, unprotected sun exposure – all of these make for a perfect cocktail for a trip to the dermatologist. And no, it’s not the nice cocktail with the umbrella.
Dermatologists therefore recommend: high factor sunscreens (no, SPF 10 doesn't count), hats, shade and – oh, surprise – avoiding the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.Yes, exactly when we love picnics and trips to the seaside.
