Before Smetnjak goes to forced summer rest and basks in the sun, together with the support of the Kru Institute, we collectivize you on the last Friday of this season. The farewell will be loud, infamous.

 

Paul Chambers starts with dance electronica in the early nineties, his first release happens on Gigolo Records, where DJ Hell releases him a piece titled Bitter Cliché. There is more to come before he retires completely for a few years Snowing In Moscow on Feinwerk Records. After that, he spends some time alone among analog chests. Somewhere in between, he hands over a couple of demos to fellow countrymen from Ghent, the Dewaele brothers from Soulwax/2ManyDJs: Paul becomes part of the family. Before deciding on the next release, he accompanies them on tour as a support group for another two years. He only decided last year that he was ready to share his material again. His second first release Yeah, Techno!, a crushing concentrate of big-room-mind-fuck techno, quickly becomes the mantra of indie dance floors. Even before the track, along with the Soulwax remix, is released on Phantasy Sound, Erol Alkan's label, it is being tirelessly hyped by bosses from The Chemical Brothers to Tiga and Mr. Oiza. Yeah, Techno! becomes the anthem of the summer, and many music blogs declare it the dancefloor track of the year. A tough test follows: Paul is hired by Boys Noize for his first official remix. Chambers does not hesitate, under his grip the impact of Boys Noiza becomes even more intense. Then he gets down to remixing and screwing Goose alive, Étienne de Crécy and Sound of Stereo and, together with Shinichi Osawa, set the pressure cooker to music with the title Singapore Swing. Ahead of his much-anticipated next solo release, Paul and his 30 kilos of analog synths, rhythm machines and other gear he roams around with stops at Smetnjak. Beware! This is no chamber music. This is The Cambers sound.
