Eero Aarnio is a designer who chose plastic for his creation and raised its value to the sky with unique plastic furniture.
Furniture, mostly chairs, of one kind or another, from armchairs to rocking sculptures, rotates around the screen when we visit the designer's website Eera Aarnia. However, most of his furniture has one common feature, which can be described in one word as – round. Well, it's also colorful, and what's even better is that everyone can choose and create the color of the piece themselves! Eero Aarnio is a Finnish designer born in 1932. He is a pioneer in the use of plastics in industrial design. Plastic offers unlimited possibilities to creators, as it allows to create any shape in any color, and this gives space to objects that are functional and fun. In the case of Eera Aarnia, however, mainly fascinating.
It was his first Ball Chair (or Globe Chair), which he designed in 1963, but saw the light of day a few years later. The material (glass fibers) and the shape itself were something completely new for that time and outside the known boundaries, which is why even today the Ball Chair is considered a classic. In the original, it appeared in white, black, red and orange. It is a room within a room that provides comfort relaxed atmosphere, which muffles the surrounding noise and, even in a noisy space, provides the individual with a quiet corner. Another legendary product of the designer is the Pastil Chair, which he created in 1967 and won an award for it a year later American Industrial Award. As described by the designer himself, this chair can be viewed from many angles, the shape comes from a small lozenge, and the very idea was to "open" the Ball Chair and the Lozenge Chair was created. Both were described in The New York Times as "the most comfortable shape that can be worn by the human body."
The human body can also fit comfortably into the rest of the products of this Finnish designer, who is also loved by children. It proves it Pony, which acts as multidimensional toy, although all the dimensions are actually adult size and Eero Aarnio didn't even have children in mind when creating it. As he described it, it's not a chair, it's a seat - for comfortable and ergonomic sitting and for taking us on the wings of imagination.
