From the darkest German basement comes the last techno slap of the season and the most hyped Berlin producer: Lucy!
The wet hype surrounding the Stroboscopic Artefacts label and its caretaker Luca Mortellar, or Lucy, in the last year has not resulted in stretched collars and aggressive hipster glasses, but in a series of swollen solid releases, united by a refined minimalism somewhere between Birmingham, Berlin and a psychiatric institution. Lucy likes to describe the label's sound as compressed dub, and most of the releases move between surgically purified industrial techno and ominous drones. Stroboscopic Artefacts operates a few basements below Berghain, and for the media attention it has to thank mainly Lucy's eclectic full-length Wordplay For Working Bees. The latter secretly flirts with his youthful role models from Warp to Basic Channel, and the Resident Advisor portal even called it the best techno album since Shed's The Traveller. We could also masturbate to his podcast for the aforementioned portal or the popular blog mnmlssg, but we'll leave that to you. Finally, let's just add that in addition to the regular dismantlings of Berghain and Fabric, boss Lucy and young hopefuls Xhino, Perc and the rest are waiting for a special Stroboscopic Stage at the prestigious Sonar festival in Barcelona this June.
Hard and proper on Friday, May 27th!
