Our Heroes is the first major exhibition of socialist realism art in our country and at the same time the largest international project of the Maribor Art Gallery to date. The installation will be on display from March 20 until August 23.
The period of socialist realism in Slovenia and other countries of the former Yugoslavia is still a poorly known period. That is why the upcoming exhibition in Maribor Art Gallery to put under the microscope the time when art was at the service of the state and its propaganda.

More than 40 works by twenty artists from the countries of the former Yugoslavia will be on display. The exhibition explores the majesty of commissions that glorify national heroes and present them in the most striking and dramatic way possible. The extensive exhibition is thus also part of the multi-year international project "Heroes We Love. Ideology, Identity and Socialist Art in New Europe", supported by the European program Creative Europe 2014-2020.
