Tons of Lapajna he carried a story inside him all his life. It was an impermanent, constant and probably also very restless inner pulse with which the artist lived. His artistic oeuvre is inextricably linked with the story of his childhood. It contains memories of early years of life in Siberia, in Barje, found their resonance and embodiment. The opus of paintings is combined with the previous opus, s cycle of statues.
Although most remember him as a painter who instead with colors "painted with earth", Tone Lapajne was an academic sculptor who, with his sculptures in concrete, iron and especially wood created an essential part of his oeuvre. With him, he was and will be in the art historical memory in the future as well.

Lapajnet's range extends from the early, engraver-marked works in miniatures to monumental public sculptures in Maribor and elsewhere, where his oeuvre turned in completely new directions. They have a special place in his oeuvre high-profile scenes and props for theatrical performances. The most famous chapter is probably still Lapajnet's painting opus, which is through the wooden reliefs and the layers applied to them black bog lands started in 1978. By bringing earth to the gallery - he strengthened it with binders, because he wanted his paintings to be indestructible, permanent, so that the memory could be preserved for longer - he wanted the disappearing landscape and the nature that is increasingly changing due to pollution, to give a permanent image. Not only as a guardian of the memory of the planet Earth, but also as an ambassador of nature, he took care of maintaining the awareness of man as nothing more than a fragment of nature.
