Fashion designers Paul Smith, Dolce & Gabbana, Collette Dinnigan, Trelise Cooper and Cecilia Bonstrom reveal their favorite destinations and corners from where they draw their inspiration. We travel to London, Paris, Milan, New York and Marrakech.
Nilufar Gallery, Milan
The fashion duo Dolce & Gabbana often find their inspiration in Nilufar furniture gallery, where many pieces of their furniture also come from. The exhibited pieces are both unique and modern, which is an excellent source of inspiration for the designer and the reason that they have now become real collectors.
El Fenn, Marrakech
New Zealand designer Trelise Cooper prefers to travel to Marrakech, where she fell in love with boutique hotel El Fenn. It is furnished in a traditional Moroccan style and features rooms with luxurious colors, a beautiful terrace with a view, and serves only locally produced food. A true oasis in the middle of the desert, says Cooper.
Sir John Soane's Museum, London
The English designer Paul Smith finds his inspiration in his native London, namely in John Soane Museum. The English architect was a great collector of art and antiques, and the museum is actually a house that he himself designed and lived in. It is preserved just as he left it at his death in 1837, providing Smith with an endless source of inspiration.
The Mercer, New York
Cecilia Bonstrom, creative director at Zadig & Voltaire, prefers to spend the night in New York at The Mercer Hotel, as she is impressed by the decor of the French designer Christian Liaigre. Bonstrom feels very at home there, thanks to the eclectic mix of hotel guests who create a very special atmosphere.
Thank you, Paris
Australian designer Collette Dinnigan is in love with Paris and Merci boutique store, where she is inspired by lovely objects and a homely atmosphere. He also enjoys good coffee there, and suggests apple and kiwi juice to all visitors.
