Romantic chamber music for wind quartet
Schedule: Gioacchino Rossini, Martin Joseph Mengal, Louis Emmanuel Jadin, F. Clapisson, Josef Fiala
The Mengal Quartet performs music from the early 19th century on appropriate historical wind instruments. Its program mainly includes works by lesser-known authors who worked in Paris; the city was not only one of the main opera centers at the time, but also home to musical instrument makers such as Jean-Nicolas Savary's "Stradivari bassoon". The ensemble was named after the Belgian composer Martin Joseph Mengal (1784-1851), who was one of the most successful horn players of the time and expertly used the capabilities of all four instruments in his quartets.
