The Freedom Island in the middle of Budapest is calling for attention, because this August the high-profile Sziget festival will once again take place there, where world music names will line up for seven days, including Robbie Williams, Avicii, Limp Bizkit, Hollywood Undead, The Gaslight Anthem, Florence + The Machine and Alt-J.
Freedom. Art and music. Sun and beach. Irresistible entertainment and unbeatable music on countless stages is what makes it Sziget every year bigger, more pompous, maybe even more special. Although they don't make much of their release numbers, for a festival that started as a student event in 1993, it will 22nd edition. Sziget is one of the biggest multicultural events in Europe, he says Freedom Island, as the locals and its fans call it, as it is considered a kind of independent country that combines several festivals into one, which is why you can find at least 50 locations on the island with more than 200 programs of a wide variety of art and entertainment per day.
This year, the biggest names of the international music scene are coming as guests, mostly from pop, rock and electro lines, but while wandering around the huge festival arena, we also find metal, folk, jazz, blues, and alternative vibes, and even classical tunes. However, not everything revolves around music at Sziget. The cultural program is also extremely varied, which includes theaters, circuses and exhibitions. On the beach, for example, you can take a break and eat the flavors of the festival summer with a full spoon, or you can go for a day to see the lively Budapest, which hides much more than just a rich cultural scene.
