We all look forward to a warm June every year, especially the younger ones. The reason probably lies in the approaching holidays or in the simple movie buzz that early summer brings to our coast. Cinema Otok again this year, this time for the tenth year, between June 4 and 8, Izola will put on a film disguise, which over the years has become almost too tight for so many incredible ideas, that's why festival grew into an informal educational platform. It will welcome 15 young people from all over Europe with open arms, who will change their home environment for a month on May 12 to work in the field of film. From workshops in the Submarine to enjoying Video on the beach
The movie is one of the most popular communicative branches of art and a unique incubator of ideas and creativity, that's why it is Cinema Otok the right place for different groups of young people who would like to express their thoughts in one way or another through this type of art and want to explore it in more detail. The first opportunity is thus offered to elementary school students between the ages of 12 and 14 already on May 4, when you can try your hand at the role of a jury at the European Day of Young Film Audiences, and a bunch of activities await you also in June at 10. Kinu Otok, where you will be able to create your own films at the Submarine film workshop or simply indulge in the magical shelter of the cinema. Somewhat older, perspective and not yet established filmmakers can present their vision to the world within the framework of the established festival section Video on the beach. Short films, selected through an open public appeal, are presented to an international audience on the screen next to the Izola Lighthouse, and later often travel around Slovenia as part of special presentations in student clubs, youth centers and similar environments.
Backstage Cinema Island will therefore be a real center for young film buffs and those who would like to meet a bunch of creators in an interesting film-sea environment and maybe turn the informal experience into something more. In a time that is distinctly unfriendly to young people, such a small creative world is definitely welcome.
