French actor, director and screenwriter Guillaume Canet presented his directorial debut and remake of the 2008 film - Blood Ties at the 66th Cannes Film Festival. The film tells the story of a conflict between two brothers, one is a policeman, the other is released from prison.
New York in 1974. Fifty years old Chris (Clive Owen) has just been released for good behavior from prison, where he was serving a multi-year sentence for manslaughter in a clash of street gangs. He is waiting for him in front of the prison full of discomfort younger brother Frank (Billy Crudup), a police officer with a promising career ahead of him and a bright future based on honesty and respect for the law. The two brothers have always been different, to each other to father Leon (James Caan), who raised them by himself, but despite the mistakes and problems that he repeatedly accumulates for the family, Chris is clearly closer to his heart. However, blood ties are what bind them together, and Frank, who welcomes his brother into his home in the hope that he has changed, is ready to give him another chance. She finds him a job and helps him get in touch with ex-wife Monica (Marion Cotillard) and children. But impatient Chris in the gloom and apparent hopelessness of everyday life, he inevitably falls back on his old ways, which turns out to be the latest in a long line of deceptions and betrayals on his soul. Frank kicks him out of his life, but far too late to save them both. Their destinies are linked forever.
The film is an English adaptation French thriller with the same title Les liens du sang (2008), in which he also starred Guillaume Canet, the director of the present Blood ties.
