The idea behind curator Simone Vidmar's exhibition is extremely sexy due to its novelty and slight voyeurism. For my eyes only, it allows us to peek into the hidden spaces of strangers, but of course only through works of art. For a month, on the last floor of the former Hotel Slavija, we will discover what private collectors are hiding, or which world-famous artists stay with us; more precisely, it is the VJP Collection. It has been in the making for the past 20 years and brings together world names in visual art and design from the 70s to the present day. It includes more than 150 works by authors from Europe, the USA, South America and Asia. The exhibition is set up as an integrated installation, as a private scenography or a labyrinth of private obsessions, which makes it even more attractive. We will have to walk between all the parts ourselves, but we can encourage the visit by mentioning some prestigious names. In the labyrinth we can thus discover the "savage" Martin Kippenberger, the humorous interventions of YBAs such as Bob and Roberta Smith, Angus Fairhurst and David Shrigley, international stars from other continents such as the Korean Do Hu Suh and the founding member of Talking Heads David Byrne, and the rising hopes of the contemporary art scene, such as the Uruguayan artist Alejandro Cesarco, the Belgian Kris Martin, the Swedish artist Alexander Gutke or the Polish-born German Alicja Kwade. This is not just about canvases, as the collection meets design, which includes many diverse products, from small objects to larger pieces of furniture. These products were mostly created as limited series for specific projects or as experimental, often handmade pieces of furniture.
