If you wanted to summarize in Braille a scene of snow-capped mountains, in which rock shadows, peaks, valleys and animals intertwine, you would need a series of 27 dots. While we can see all the beauty of the snow-capped mountains, the visually impaired can only feel these 27 dots. That will change with a prototype Ford 'window' that will allow visually impaired people to better understand what's on the other side of the glass.
Ford concept 'window' will create a new type 'languages', which will enable people with visual impairments better perception of surroundings while driving a car. Conceptual Feel the View they are developed by the Italian branch Ford and GTB Roma, who partnered with Aed, a local start-up company dealing with products for people suffering from visual impairment. Thanks to photography, LED lights and vibrations, passengers can literally they feel the changing landscape rushing past the window.
The device forwards to the window 255 vibrations, with which we can more easily imagine the view through the type. The camera takes a photo of the view through the window. This photo is then converted to a grayscale image, and each shade of gray is then converted to vibrations with different intensity. There is also a voice assistant that connects to and controls the car's audio system artificial intelligence. The user thus feels a different background through vibrations, and artificial intelligence additionally tells him through the speakers what he actually feels. Definitely a commendable project that will brighten up people with vision problems at least the time they spend in the car while driving.
