Let's face it, the modern urban jungle often exhausts us to the point where the thought of packing for a trip feels like an expedition to Everest. But what if there was a shortcut to perfect Zen that didn't require a PhD in wilderness survival?
Get to know Sunrise, the latest IKEA collection that will convince you that the grass really is greener outside – and with new furnishings, it's even more chic. Get ready for outdoor elegance.
When “Friluftsliv” and “Komorebi” meet
If those two words sound like something you'd order in an exotic three-Michelin-starred restaurant, let us reassure you. At Ikea, they've taken the best of two worlds that have mastered the art of living: Scandinavia and Japan. New collection Sunrise (which romantically means sunrise in Swedish) draws inspiration from the Nordic concept friluftsliv – the philosophy of simple outdoor living – and masterfully intertwines it with Japanese comerebiThe latter describes the poetic, fleeting beauty of sunlight gently filtering through the treetops.

What does this mean for you? To connect with nature, you no longer need expensive gear from specialist mountaineering shops that makes you look like you're going to war. Soluppgång is designed for those small, meaningful moments: a quick jog to the nearby park, an afternoon at the beach or a spontaneous barbecue with friends on the terrace. It's an invitation to slow down without sacrificing your personal style.

Must-have pieces for “not-so-wild” adventures
Ola Wihlborg, the designer of the collection (and clearly someone who knows what it means to spend time outside without stress), created pieces that bridge the gap between the comfort of your living room and the unpredictability of Mother Nature. “We wanted these pieces to work effortlessly outside, but also look completely natural in your home,” explains Wihlborg.
And it is. Take the folding chair and table for example. Forget those infamous, creaky plastic chairs that fold up just as you sit down with a full plate. The new pieces are aesthetically pleasing, easy to carry, and pretty enough to happily keep on your balcony after your picnic.

For all the foodies, here's a durable enameled steel cookware set. Not only is it lightweight and virtually indestructible, it also says it's chic in a casual yet sophisticated way. Food preparation is enhanced by bamboo cutting boards and a compact cast iron grill that promises reliable heat for easy outdoor culinary adventures.
Aesthetics hidden in smart details
One of the biggest stars of the collection is undoubtedly the specially designed cooler bag. While cooler bags used to be those necessary but visually painful pieces of equipment that we hid behind bushes, Ikea's version is a real design surprise. It combines natural materials with smart functionality and an aesthetic that is equally at home on a chic picnic in the park as it is in a modern kitchen.

Every great adventure needs a great atmosphere. When the sun goes down, a portable LED light comes into play, providing a warm and inviting glow, while soft textiles – from blankets to pillows – provide tactile comfort. And it all fits easily into a versatile bag with an expandable top and durable bottom, proving that practicality can be visually appealing.

Take that knife (no, seriously)
Perhaps the most unexpected yet fascinating piece in the collection is the multi-purpose knife. Yes, a knife. Ola Wihlborg loves it. “It’s something I always have with me,” he says. “Sometimes you need to cut rope, sometimes you need to prepare food. It’s just practical.” While we don’t expect you to be fighting bears in the city park, slicing that perfectly aged French cheese or homemade baguette with the right tool is simply more satisfying. And now you can have a tool that looks fantastic and lasts a long time. Durability and quality were at the forefront of the design.

Karin Gustavsson, creative director for Soluppgång, sums it up perfectly: “We want to inspire people to get outside in an easy way – even if it’s just for five minutes on their doorstep. A quick escape to nature should be accessible to everyone.”
So, mark your calendars. This limited-edition collection, available in all Ikea stores from April 2026, is your new favorite excuse to skip your afternoon meetings and head out into nature. Because, let's be honest, that Zoom call could really be just an email, and you're holding an (aesthetically perfect) glass of cold drink somewhere in the shade of the trees.
