When temperatures drop and virus lists become longer than the waiting list at the health center, our throats become the first battlefield. Sore, scratchy and sensitive - crying out for a quick fix. And while pharmacies offer an arsenal of throat lozenges, we often find ourselves with a taste for artificial flavoring and a suspiciously long list of ingredients that only a pharmacist with a PhD in chemistry would understand.

So it's time for a twist: natural, homemade sore throat lozenges are not only pretty to look at and better for your body, but they work with the power of proven natural ingredients - honey, ginger, lemon and spices. Add a pinch of creativity and a little culinary daring and you have healing lozenges that you would be happy to sell at an organic fair in BerlinOr hide them from the children in the top kitchen cabinet.

Why Homemade Sore Throat Lozenges Work (and Why You Should Make Them at Least Once)

When we talk about sore throat candy, we're not talking about sweet indulgences, but about functional foods - that is, those that not only work, but also heal. The main star of the recipe is honey, which has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, acts as a natural antiseptic and at the same time soothes irritated mucous membranes. Lemon juice It provides vitamin C and a refreshing acidity that cuts through mucus.

Ginger, this little root with a big ego, acts as a natural analgesic, promotes blood circulation, and helps reduce inflammation. Cloves But they're not just for mulled wine—they contain eugenol, a powerful natural anesthetic that relieves pain and soothes coughs. Combined, these elements create candies that actually do something—and they're free of artificial colors, sugar syrups, and E-numbers that only a lab technician would recognize.

    • 1 cup of sugar
    • ½ cup of water
    • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
    • 1 tablespoon honey (preferably wild or manuka)
    • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
    • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves

Process:

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, water, lemon juice and honey. Add andginger and cloves and stir well. Once the mixture boils, reduce the heat and simmer for 15–20 minutes until it becomes thick, dark and syrupy.

Carefully pour the mixture onto a baking sheet lined with baking paper or into silicone molds using a spoon or a syringe. After cooling (at least 20 minutes), sprinkle the candies with powdered sugar - this trick will prevent them from sticking.

Store in an airtight container and use as needed. Remember: all they're missing is the logo packaging.
