Sloppy Joe It is a mixture of juicy ground beef, rich tomato sauce and spices, which together create a taste that will immediately make you lick your fingers.
The preparation is ridiculously easy, and the result is… well, you better try it yourself!
Sloppy Joe
Ingredients
- 500 g of ground beef
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- ½ medium onion (finely chopped)
- ½ green pepper (chopped)
- 1 tablespoon of minced garlic
- 2 tablespoons of tomato puree
- 200 ml tomato sauce (or tomato puree)
- 2 tablespoons of ketchup
- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon mustard (classic yellow)
- ½ teaspoon chili powder (to taste)
- ½ teaspoon paprika powder (sweet)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 4 buns or soft buns for serving
Directions
- Heat the olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the ground beef and fry until completely browned and crumbly. Drain off any excess fat if necessary.
- Add the chopped onion, green pepper, and garlic. Sauté for a few minutes until the vegetables are soft and fragrant.
- Stir in the tomato puree and cook for another minute to combine the flavors.
- Add tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, chili powder, paprika, and salt and pepper to taste. Mix well to combine all ingredients evenly.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer gently for about 10–15 minutes, until it thickens nicely.
- Serve by spooning a generous spoonful of the sauce onto the bun. If desired, you can add a few slices of cheese, sliced pickles, or onion rings for extra texture.
Tips for an even better Sloppy Joe:
For an extra layer of flavor, stir in some shredded cheddar cheese at the end. Spicy lovers can add a dash of hot sauce or extra chili powder. For freshness, add thinly sliced lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles.
