From now on, passengers on city and intercity lines of Ljubljana's passenger transport can also pay for bus trips in a new, modern way - with payment cards.
A new technological solution that has joined the various ways of paying for travel card payment, is a welcome innovation that will make it easier for occasional users, daily migrants and tourists to travel by bus. The technological solution was created in collaboration Municipalities of Ljubljana, Ljubljana Passenger Transport, Margent, Nova Ljubljanska banka, Bankart, Visa and Mastercard.
Ljubljana, as a city that was selected for the Mission of 100 climate-neutral and smart European cities last April and in accordance with the integrated transport strategy, is actively building its vision of the urban future, which will achieve the decarbonization of society by 2030 through numerous activities and projects. An important area of decarbonisation is brought about by challenges in the field of transport and travel habits, where the promotion of sustainable forms of mobility and improvements and changes in the field of public passenger transport play a decisive role. The introduction of a new way of paying for trips in public passenger transport is based on sustainability and even easier accessibility. The new digital solution, together with the well-established Urbana city card and other payment methods, expands the possibilities of using passenger transport and further increases its accessibility.
The possibility of paying with payment cards represents a novelty in Slovenian public passenger transport, and provides regular and occasional users of Ljubljana passenger transport with an easy solution at their fingertips - easy payment with a payment card, mobile wallet or other wearable device. When paying for trips with payment cards, a free transfer within the 90-minute period is not possible.
The dynamic development that Ljubljana has experienced in recent years is also based on strategic technological development and solid partnerships between key stakeholders in the field of mobility, digitalization and sustainable solutions. The implementation of the technological solution is the result of several years of development and cooperation with partners, both in the private and public sectors, who together create pieces of the mosaic in the structure of smart urban solutions.
