Generation Z: the silent or e-generation is “responsible, resourceful and extremely 'sober'”

What are today's twenty-year-olds, representatives of Generation Z, like? Let's take a look at the results of an online survey among young people, which was created as part of the launch of the soft drink Union Radler 0.0, in which more than four thousand twenty-year-olds from all over Slovenia participated.

The generation that grew up between 1995 and 2010 and today represents twenty percent of the world's population, is embedded in communication and technological networks from an early age. Compared to previous generations, members of this generation are therefore very aware that social networks are public, and they are careful about what they post on them. Almost all young people (98 %) who participated in the survey pointed out that they value their privacy and like things under control (97 %). For the majority of young people, they represent social networks (66 %) way of communication, with which they can maintain contact with friends and acquaintances, even when they are not in direct contact with them. No wonder, then, that as many as a fifth of young people talk to friends and relatives most often by chat apps, even more often than after phone conversations, and yes it is Facebook Messenger the application they use most often. It is an extremely visual generation that expresses itself very well with images, photographs and symbols. Instagram they use more often than Facebook, and they also use it just as often YouTube and SnapChat. Every third one express emotions more easily with emojis, emoticons and gifs as with words.

Generation Z is less involved in alcohol.

A third of young people believe that they drink the same or less than previous generations and they resort to alcoholic beverages from time to time, during celebrations and special occasions. Around twenty percent of young people do not drink alcohol because they prefer it they reach for healthier drinks or they don't like the taste or the effect alcohol has on them. When choosing a drink, they are pay attention to the quality of the product, sugar content and natural ingredients. Many young people prefer soft drinks, such as alcohol, to alcohol non-alcoholic radler, which most young people have already tried (81 %). They always choose this drink when they are driving, but also often at parties and when hanging out with friends.

Online survey "What it means to be in your twenties" was created at the initiative of Pivovarna Laško Union with the desire to understand today's younger generation and respond to their needs. The survey was conducted May 2019, participated in it 4,300 young individuals between the ages of 20 and 29.
