Let's face it, we're all still a little bitter about not receiving that famous owl letter on our eleventh birthday. But don't panic, my dear Muggles, the wizarding world is returning with a bang, straight to our living rooms! The new Harry Potter series is coming!
HBO Max dropped a real visual bombshell and released the first official teaser for the eight-part first season of the upcoming new series. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's StoneGet ready for an epic nostalgic ride full of spells and hidden secrets.

New Harry Potter series: The Best Christmas Present
Forget those reindeer sweaters that Santa leaves under the tree every year. HBO has promised us something incomparably better for Christmas 2026 – the perfect excuse for a three-day marathon on the couch! The first season, which will consist of exactly eight episodes (just enough for one decent binge-watching weekend), will take us back to the very beginning.

We'll meet eleven-year-old Harry again, who thinks he's just another ordinary, slightly neglected and unwanted boy, condemned to live in a cupboard under the stairs at Aunt Petunia's. Then - boom! A letter, an invitation to Hogwarts, and suddenly a glittering, hidden world of friendship, fun and magic opens up to him. Of course, with this new adventure comes great risks. Harry must confront a dangerous enemy from his past. Sounds like your average dramatic Monday in the world of high fashion, right?

New faces, same magic: Meet the refreshed cast
If you thought the original cast was absolutely irreplaceable, get ready for a pop culture-shattering twist. This time, the shoes of the most famous wizarding trio will be stepped on by young hopefuls: Dominic McLaughlin like a newly scarred Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as the brilliant (and always organized) Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout like the loyal Ron Weasley.

But what really gets the attention of fashion and television critics about this production is the adult cast. Oh my goodness, the stars have truly aligned in perfect alignment here! Get ready for a magnificent John Lithgow in the role of headmaster Albus Dumbledore (we can already imagine that piercing but wise gaze from behind those half-moon glasses). Invincible and always elegant Janet McTeer takes on the role of the stern Minerva McGonagall, while the brilliant Paapa Essiedu brought a completely new, dark and sophisticated elegance to the character of Severus Snape.

And if you were wondering who could possibly top the original Key Keeper – Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid is an absolute hit! There are also excellent Daniel Rigby as the annoying Vernon Dursley, Bel Powley as Aunt Petunia and even Paul Whitehouse as the nerdy Argus Filch. The cast is rounded out by big names like Johnny Flynn (Lucius Malfoy), Bertie Carvel (Cornelius Fudge) and Katherine Parkinson (Molly Weasley).

Darker, bolder and made for a discerning audience
Let's be honest: HBO is not known for doing things by halves or avoiding complexity. The series, created and overseen as executive producer by Francesca Gardiner and directed by visionary Mark Mylod, promises to be very promising. Mylod had us on the edge of our seats with his masterful direction on the cult series Succession, so we can reasonably expect a little more sophisticated drama, sharp dialogue and intrigue in the corridors of Hogwarts.

Of course, the author of the books herself remains closely involved in the project as executive producer, JK Rowling, in collaboration with Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV. Joining this star-studded behind-the-scenes team is David Heyman, who previously oversaw the iconic film franchise.

Whether you're a die-hard fan who still has a Gryffindor scarf tucked away in the closet for special occasions, or just a cosmopolitan looking for the perfect TV escapism for long winter evenings, one thing is crystal clear. HBO's new Harry Potter series will be the absolute pop culture phenomenon of winter 2026. The stakes are high for the protagonists, dark enemies are awakening, and we're already getting our popcorn ready and absolutely here for all this magical drama.
