Food in, air out. That's kind of how Evac, a food storage jar launched on Kickstarter, works as the perfect solution.
"It is very rare that you create a perfect solution and a perfect product. But that's it,” say the creators about Evacu. Evac is a company project Pollen Design (behind renowned designer Ed Kilduff) and it really does sound like a solution to the perennial problem of food storage. They say that plastic is not the healthiest for storing food, the ingredients lose their aroma in the open. Well, this actually happens with some ingredients – like spices and teas – regardless of storage.
But with Evacu, even the latter should remain fresh and aromatic for a long time. The trick is to push the special cap with a double valve to get all the air out of the jar. Why remove air? "Simple," they say in Pollen Design, "the longer ingredients are exposed to air, the faster they lose their flavor." Evac ensures that food stays fresh longer. Simple. And still chic, even if we store on open shelves. If we're being a bit poetic, Evac prolongs memories. Through the aromatic coffee I brought from Istanbul and the chili I got as a gift from India. Will have to test.
