What do the numbers on radiator valves mean and how can you save on heating costs by using them correctly?

As temperatures drop and winter sets in, efficient home heating becomes key. However, many people do not know that the settings on the radiator valves can significantly affect the temperature in the room and energy consumption.

So what do these numbers actually mean and how to use them optimally?

Each number on the valve represents a specific temperature

Numbers are often seen on radiator valves, but they do not indicate how hot the radiator is. Instead, they indicate how many degrees the room will be if we leave the radiator running at a certain setting.

Here are the main values these symbols represent:

= 7°C ("snowflake")

1 = 10°C

2 = 15°C

3 = 20°C

4 = 25°C

5 = 30°C

With this data, you can set the radiators according to the desired temperature and adjust the heating so that it is energy efficient.

How to reduce heating costs?

For saving on heating it is recommended to set the radiators to number 2 or 3 during the winter months in smaller rooms. This way, the room will reach a temperature between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius, which is quite enough for a comfortable stay.

It is important to allow the radiator to work without over-adjusting – when the room is cold, leave the radiator running at the set temperature rather than immediately raising it to a higher level. This prevents excessive energy consumption.

What to do when you are not at home?

If you are leaving home for a long period of time or going on vacation, it is wise to set the radiators to the "snowflake" symbol. This setting ensures that the radiator only switches on when the room temperature drops below 7°C, preventing excessive cooling. This will save you energy and at the same time keep the space in a sufficient thermal balance.

Why avoid setting the number five?

Setting the radiator to highest level (number 5) means that the radiator will work until the temperature in the room reaches 30°C. Such a setting is uneconomical, as it causes excessive energy consumption and unnecessary overheating of the room. It makes sense to limit such use to extremely cold conditions or rooms that require a higher temperature.

An excellent solution – the smart radiator valve

The WiFi smart radiator valve is a device that enables accurate and efficient room temperature management via your smartphone or tablet. With this smart valve, you can reduce heating costs in several ways:

Precise temperature control: The smart valve allows you to set the desired temperature in each room individually. This means that you can heat only those rooms where you really need it, while reducing heat consumption in the remaining rooms.

Heating programming: With the time planning function, you can set when the heating should be switched on and off. For example, the heating can be switched off when you leave home and switched back on just before your arrival. This way you avoid unnecessary heating of empty rooms.

Remote control: If you forget to turn off the heating when you've already left home, you can do it via the app on your smartphone. You can also adjust the temperature according to the weather conditions, wherever you are.

Automation with geolocation: Some smart valves have a geolocation function that detects when you leave the home and automatically adjusts the heating. When you return, the valve increases the temperature again to the desired level.

Optimization of consumption: By monitoring heat consumption and analyzing the data, you can better understand your heating habits and adjust them to use less energy.

By using the WiFi smart radiator valve, you can reduce energy consumption and save on heating costs, while maintaining optimal comfort in your home.
