Google with digital detox apps, including a “paper” phone

Google has launched a collection of tools aimed at helping people find a better balance in their use of technology. For this purpose, they created six experimental applications that help with digital detox and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Each of these tools focuses on a different behavior. Unlock Clock thus showing how many times a day we have unlocked the phone. We Flip helps families and friends disconnect from technology together by simultaneously "pressing" a button and setting their phones to "do not disturb" mode. Post Box minimizes notifications to only those that we temporarily planned, Desert Island challenges the user to get through the day only with the help of basic applications, Morph but it helps with focus by showing only those notifications that are related to what we are currently doing. The collection also includes a "paper" phone Paper Phone, which allows users to enjoy a digital detox by printing all the information they need for that day (e.g. contact information, recipes, e-mails...) on paper.

All six apps are available in the Play Store, and the open source system that was used in the creation of the tools makes it possible to try your own experiments. For this purpose, Google has also prepared a PDF with instructions, application information and suggestions.

Google already has some functions that should help with well-being and digital detox. So it is available for Android Wind Down, which dims the phone screen at bedtime, and so on Take a Break for YouTube, which is triggered when it detects that we have exceeded a certain streaming content quota on the portal.
