The classic BMW 2002 is a feast for the eyes - in its day it was one of the best cars that performed well in everyday use as well as road racing. The icon has now been given a new chance to revive with a modern upgrade and a brutal power boost.
Today, it is sure to smile at those who own the highly desirable icon 1970s BMW 2002 - firstly because they own a truly remarkable piece of automotive history and secondly because of the news that this the icon can be redone and turn it into law road beast: the latter would come in handy especially for those of you they own a not the best preserved 2002 and they are awaiting a thorough renovation.
The team at Gruppe5 Motorsport is looking for classic BMW cars 2002, produced over the years 1968 and 1975 – they will completely dismantle these in the first step, and then they will start building a modern version with a name Gruppe5 2002. By adding steel and carbon fiber, they will provide reinforcement, while reducing the weight of the car. The widened body allows the installation of wider tires, which in turn ensures better grip. And last but not least, 2.0 liter 4 cylinder will replace with 5,8- or 5.9-liter In a 10-cylinder, which will have 755 or 815 horsepower!
The conversion will not interfere with safety standards, as the car will still be within security frameworks organizations FIA and will be suitable for by road use and racetrack.
A new engine comes from the model E60 BMW M5, which was further processed and coiled. Given that Gruppe5 2002 will weigh less than 1000 kilograms, the power they will add to it is absolutely incredible. Due to the aerodynamic corrections, the game will produce almost 1100 kilograms the force that pulls it to the ground, so it will bend definitely gripped. Now we just need more courage, to fully press the gas pedal.
Unfortunately, we did not find out how much the conversion costs, but it is a limited number 300 cars – 200 with 5.8 liter and 100 with 5.9-liter motor. They are already starting with the conversions this summer, so just get in line quickly if you want a brutally upgraded classic.
