The history of running

The history of running goes back far into the past, to the forerunner of man. The race and its story developed in religious festivals in Greece, Egypt, Asia and Africa. One of the earliest running competitions is the Irish sports festival The Tailteann Games, games dedicated to the goddess Tailtiu, which took place as early as 1829 BC.

The marathon itself (the word) comes from the legend of the Greek soldier Philippides. He ran all the way from Marathon to Athens, where he hurried to deliver the news of the victory of the Greek army over the Persians. If we move to modern times, the world experienced the first real running boom in the 1970s, starting in America. In the 1970s and 1980s, it's estimated that as many as 25 million Americans used running in some way—including President Jimmy Carter. This running boom was inspired by Frank Shorter's 1972 marathon victory, becoming the third American to win the Olympic marathon and the first since 1908. This victory was vividly covered by television cameras and created a story that changed the perception of long distance running. route

World record in the 100m run

Today we are definitely experiencing a second renaissance of running. In America, they did a survey, the results of which showed that in 2011 fourteen million people finished some kind of running race, which is 170 percent more than twenty years ago.
