Ingredients

  • 500 g of white flour
  • 300 ml of warm water
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1/2 cube of fresh yeast (or 7 g of dry yeast)
  • Optional seeds (sesame, flax, poppy)
  • Spices as desired (rosemary, thyme, oregano)

Directions

1. Preparation of yeast: Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water in a small bowl. Let stand for 5-10 minutes to activate the yeast and start to foam. If you are using fresh yeast, mix it well so that it is completely dissolved. 2. Mixing the ingredients: Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl. Then add the yeast and olive oil. Start kneading the dough - it will be a little sticky at first, but gradually knead until it is smooth and elastic. This process should take about 10 minutes. 3. Rising of the dough: Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and leave it to rise in a warm place for at least 1 hour, or until its volume doubles. This will ensure that your grissini are light and crispy. 4. Forming breadcrumbs: When the dough has risen enough, place it on a lightly floured surface. Roll it out to about 1 cm thick. Then cut it into long thin strips (about 1 cm wide and 20 cm long). If desired, you can slightly curl the strips to get a more rustic shape. 5. Coating and additives: Place the grissine on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Brush each strip with olive oil, then sprinkle with your favorite toppings - sesame, flaxseed, poppy seeds or aromatic herbs such as rosemary, thyme or oregano. 6. Baking: Heat the oven to 200 °C. Bake the grissine for about 15-20 minutes, until they are golden brown and crispy. Be careful not to burn them while baking - a golden color means they're done. 7. Service: Once the grissini are baked, let them cool down a bit. Then serve them with different sauces, such as hummus, guacamole, or on their own with a glass of wine. They are the perfect companion for any occasion!

Homemade grissini are perfect proof that there is the most magic in simple things. Once you bake them at home, you'll never want to buy them at the store again. As well as being easy to prepare, they are also fun to design – let your imagination run wild and create different shapes and flavours!
