The holiday tradition dates back to the 1890s, and all because of the Nutcracker ballet. Before the figure appeared in ballet, it was a practical tool dating back to Roman times, as they were used to rub walnuts.
They were the first nutcrackers made of metal and they looked like modern pliers. In the 15th century, they began to make wooden nutcrackers, which became known under the German word Nussknacker.
In 1930, nutcrackers got a human form and have remained so until today. It is for making a traditional wooden figure almost 130 steps required. Each figure has up to 60 parts, which are made of locally grown spruce and beech wood, the beard and hair are made of rabbit fiber.
When the famous ballet was published in 1892 Tchaikovsky - The Nutcracker, sales of figures increased and became a real traditional Christmas decoration. Nutcrackers are celebrated all over the world today in all forms, as they represent one of the authorities from the past, especially kings, soldiers and guardians and protectors of public peace and morality.
It is a traditional product and one of the few commercial products that has a wide range lovers and collectors. During the Christmas season, it is considered a mandatory inventory both on store shelves and as a gift.
In December 2021, you can see the ballet performance Hrestač at SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana and SNG Maribor.
