How do celebrities get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?

Have you ever wondered why Adam Levine received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame ahead of, say, movie legend Denzel Washington? Or Julio Roberts? Not even George Clooney has a star. Why? It turns out that there is a very interesting but rather simple reason behind the awarding of stars on the Walk of Fame.

Every year the chamber Hollywood Chamber of Commerce narrows the list of Star on the Walk of Fame recipients to approx 20 celebrities. But the process itself begins much earlier. He must continue to gain fame nomination – his publicist or a fan wealthy enough to sponsor the star – and then he has to accept the nomination. This means that he then signs the form with which pledges that he wants the star and will be at the ceremony, when the star will be revealed to the public (for planning the ceremony, the star or star has available 5 years).

So when they choose a famous person, they have to pay the costs of the star themselves: 40 thousand US dollars. Sounds like a pretty hefty sum for a piece of pavement, doesn't it? This money is used to build and install the star on the sidewalk, and the rest is used to 'maintain the sidewalk of fame'.
