December is here and with it the intoxicating scent of freshly baked cookies. But what if we told you that there is one small mistake that is making your cookies less than perfect? Yes, the ones you bake with love and… the wrong technique! It’s time to reveal the secret that separates the top cookies from the average ones.
Why are your cookies “meh”? It’s all because of this one thing!
Let's face it - we all love butter cookies. Those crumbly, light cookies that just melt in your mouth. If you've ever thought that the key to perfect cookies is ice cold butter, then it's time to think again. Kerry Morey, baking expert and founder Callie's Hot Little Biscuit, has baked thousands of cookies and discovered something amazing: butter at room temperature is actually your secret ingredient for success.
Room Temperature Butter: Yes or No?
Contrary to everything you've heard in cooking classes or read in old recipes, butter it doesn't have to be coldMorey swears that using softer butter doesn't change the texture of the cookies, but rather improves the flavor and makes the dough easier to work with. The difference? The cookies bake more evenly, are soft, and are tantalizingly delicious.
And if someone who makes a living selling cookies says this, it's probably worth listening to, right?
But be careful, here's another mistake we all make!
Speaking of mistakes – the biggest pitfall is in the details. Have you ever been stuck with a cookie cutter stuck to the dough while rolling and shaping the dough? Or have you tried unsuccessfully to peel the dough off the knife? Well, that's because you forgot the flour!
Kerry has a simple trick: anything you use to cut dough (molds, spatulas, knives), coat with flourThis way you prevent the layers of dough from sticking together, and you will get perfect, beautifully shaped cookies that will not lose their shape.
How in practice?
- Butter out of the fridge: Let it warm to room temperature.
- Prepare the flour: Flour the molds, knives, and all dough cutting utensils.
- Knead with love: Don't worry if the butter is softer – your effort will pay off!
Time for perfect cookies!
December is the month of warm kitchens, sweet smells, and cookie baking. Don't let these little mistakes rob you of the perfect holiday treats! Soften the butter, flour your utensils, and surprise your guests with the best cookies ever.
Now that you know the secrets, go out and create cookies that even your best friend won't be able to resist. Santa Claus.
