PVC joinery has been an indispensable part of modern homes for many years due to its durability and affordable price. There is no household where at least one door or window is not adorned with this durable white plastic. But as with any love - cracks appear over time. Literally. And even before serious technical problems appear, something much more aesthetic begins to bother us: yellow stains, handprints and stubborn dirt, which accumulates mainly around handles, edges and parts that we use every day. How to clean PVC windows?

PVC Windows and doors turn yellow and lose their shine over the years. But there is a natural trick to clean PVC windows – quickly, efficiently and without harming the plastic.

These stains are not just a cosmetic flaw, but the result of oxidation, exposure to UV rays, hand oils and tiny particles of dirt that, in combination with moisture and heat, adhere to the surface. Many people then resort to a strong chemical cleaner – but this often begins the process of permanently damaging the surface layer of PVC. The solution? Natural and effective, like grandma's advice – lemon.

How to clean PVC windows without chemicals

Lemon juice – a natural cleansing ally

Why does lemon work?

Lemon contains a high concentration citric acid, a natural acid that acts as a fat solvent, bleach and decomposer of organic matter. Citric acid reacts with alkaline residues (e.g. soap scum, limescale and sweat grease), breaks them down and at the same time removes oxidized particles from the surface that give plastic that characteristic yellowish appearance. And all this – without aggressive rubbing and without the risk of damaging the material.

Cleaning process with 100% natural lemon:

    1. Cut a fresh lemon in half and squeeze it – you need about 1–2 tablespoons of juice.
    2. With a soft sponge or cotton cloth, apply lemon juice apply directly to yellowed or dirty parts PVC surfaces.
    3. Wait. 5 minutesfor the acid to do its job – during this time it begins to break down fats and the oxidized layer.
    4. Gently wipe the surface with microfiber cloth, which will remove loosened dirt.
    5. Finally, wipe everything down with damp clothto remove acid residue and prevent the surface from becoming sticky.

The result is visible immediately: the surface will be brighter, smoother and shiny again – without unpleasant odors or damage.

For stubborn stains: The double power of lemon and salt

When lemon alone is not enough (e.g. in the kitchen, where grease accumulates on the frames for months), we recommend combining it with a natural abrasive – table salt.

Recipe for natural exfoliation of PVC surfaces:

The salt mechanically removes stubborn plaque, while the lemon dissolves it – and together they ensure that you no longer feel like you're looking out a window from the 90s.

Why is natural cleaning of PVC windows better than industrial cleaning?

In addition to the obvious ecological and health advantages (no more protective gloves and ventilation after cleaning), natural cleaners offer many other benefits:

They do not damage the PVC surface. – no discoloration, no erosion, no matting.
Safe to use in the presence of children and pets – no risk of contact with toxic substances.
Accessible and affordable solution – you almost certainly already have lemons and salt at home.
An environmentally friendly choice – no discharge of hazardous substances into the environment.
Gentle yet effective power – enough for everyday cleaning, but also for a "general cleaning".
