When the temperatures drop, drying laundry becomes a real challenge, especially for those without a dryer. Indoor drying also often brings unwanted side effects – moisture that promotes mold and mustiness.

But don't worry – there are ways you can speed up drying in winter and at the same time prevent moisture from stressing your home. With a few simple adjustments, you can ensure fresh, dry laundry and air that will remain pleasantly dry and clean.

By following these steps, you will successfully speed up the drying of your laundry in the winter months, while preventing unpleasant moisture and possible mold problems.

Choosing a place to dry

The first step to quickly drying laundry in winter is choosing a suitable space. It is ideal to place the stand in the warmest and most ventilated area, such as the living room or near radiators. Although heat is important, be careful - never place laundry directly on radiators as this creates extra moisture which can cause mold on the walls. A good compromise is to place the drying rack a few meters away, as this way the heat still accelerates drying without unnecessary moisture in the air.

Using a fan or dehumidifier

A fan is an excellent drying aid, as it ensures air circulation, which prevents the formation of condensation. Although the fan itself does not heat the room, it can reduce drying time by allowing constant air movement. Another option is a dehumidifier, which is especially useful in smaller rooms, as it removes moisture from the air. For those with more moisture problems, a dehumidifier is an investment that ensures a healthier and drier living environment.

Optimum spinning of laundry

When washing laundry, use the additional spin option with several spins. A higher spin rate in the washing machine means that most of the water will be removed before drying, which can drastically reduce the time it takes for the laundry to dry completely. Make sure that the laundry is well wrung, but at the same time watch out for more delicate fabrics, which can be damaged by over-spinning.

Regular ventilation of the room

While drying the laundry, it is crucial to ventilate the room several times so that moisture does not accumulate in the air. Open the windows for a short time several times a day, especially if you are drying laundry in a small space. If you have balcony doors or windows, you can open them completely for a few minutes and thus quickly reduce the level of humidity in the air, which will allow clothes to dry faster.

Using dry towels to speed up drying

For even faster results, insert a dry, clean towel between the laundry to absorb additional moisture from wet clothes. After 15 minutes, remove the towel so that the laundry maintains air flow and dries evenly. The towel acts as an additional layer to absorb moisture, which is especially useful for thick materials such as jeans or towels.

Drying smaller items of laundry together

When drying laundry in a smaller space, make sure to dry heavier items (e.g. towels) separately from thinner, lighter items. Arrange the clothes evenly on the rack, making sure that the pieces do not touch each other. This creates space for air circulation, which reduces drying time and allows for better ventilation.
