Based on data from more than 6,500 adults with an average age of 47, researchers presented the surprising findings at the American Heart Association (AHA) Scientific Conference in Philadelphia.

"We all want to live longer, but more importantly, yes we live healthily so that we can truly enjoy life and we maintain the quality of life as long as possible," say the scientists.

After taking into account social, economic and demographic factors, the researchers found that the highest score - which means good cardiovascular health – associated with a biological age that was about six years younger than the individual's actual age.

For example, the average actual age of those with good heart health was 41, and their average biological age was 36. In contrast, people with poor cardiovascular health had an average actual age of 53, while their average biological age was 57.
