Let's say a few drops of nail polish fall on your shirt or pants while you're painting, or the entire bottle rolls right onto the bathroom towel. The combination of pigments, hardeners and solvents is a recipe for potential disaster, but don't give up too quickly. A nail polish accident doesn't have to be a disaster. Removal is actually pretty easy.

To begin with, try to remove as much varnish as possible, and for this use a cotton swab or cotton wool.

Cleaning process

Check the mark on the fabric first before trying to remove the stains. If the material itself contains acetate, triacetate or modacrylic or if it is a delicate fabric or fabric suitable for dry cleaning only (satin or silk), do not try to pre-treat it with solvents or nail polish remover. Instead, take it to a dry cleaner.

Before using the selected stain remover, test the agent on the material itself. Simply soak a white cloth or paper towel in the solvent and test the color fastness on an inconspicuous part of the garment. If the paint was not damaged, you can use the product to remove the varnish.

Do not rub the stain, as this will only spread the nail polish further into the fibers of the garment. Carefully remove as much excess polish as possible with a cotton swab.

Soak the cloth in solvent or rubbing alcohol. If the stain is really stubborn, you can also apply it directly to the stain. Wipe the stain with a cloth - using circular motions from the outside inward to prevent the stain from spreading. Transfer the nail polish from your clothing to the cleaning cloth with a sliding motion.

Then machine wash the garment using a high-quality detergent. For extremely stubborn nail polish stains that are already dried or very dark, you may first pre-soak them in a solution of water and a tablespoon of detergent. Mix water and detergent in a large bucket, place the garment in the solution and let it soak for at least 20 minutes.

Then wash the product at the temperature recommended on the garment's care label. If the stain remains, repeat the steps. Do not dry the garment until the stain is removed.
