The world's first smartwatch certified for ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) will improve the lives of patients suffering from high blood pressure. It can be purchased in stores near you for 429 euros.
Workplace stress, unhealthy lifestyles, and poor eating habits often lead to emotional fluctuations that can cause changes in blood pressure. Huawei, aware of the importance of effective health management and the shortcomings of traditional medical devices in terms of cost and convenience, has invested a decade in developing blood pressure measurement technology. The result is a premium smartwatch Huawei Watch D2.
24-hour wrist blood pressure monitoring
The main function of the new smartwatch is continuous 24-hour blood pressure monitoring directly on the wrist. The measurement is carried out according to the principle used by cuff monitors - by inflating and gradually releasing air from a ring built into the strap. The measurements are taken at set time intervals. Since it is important for accuracy that you are in a relaxed sitting or standing position during the measurement, the watch reminds you in time of the upcoming measurement, which will also be performed automatically at night.
Huawei Watch D2 is the world's first smartwatch, intended for ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), which has been certified by the China Medical Devices Administration (NPMA) and meets the requirements of the European Union's MDR regulation. The device includes a high-precision pressure sensor, a compact airbag, and the latest TruSense system, premiered in the Huawei Watch GT 5 series. This enables faster and more reliable electrocardiogram (ECG) recording and monitoring of heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, stress level, and skin temperature. With one touch, the watch measures nine key body parameters and generates a report (Health Overview), supporting comprehensive health management and early identification of potential health risks.
Aesthetics of a smartwatch instead of a “medical device”
As is typical for smartwatches, it offers 80 different sports modes and allows tracking of goals related to exercise, nutrition, sleep, weight and stress management. This helps users establish healthy habits that contribute to a healthier lifestyle and effective blood pressure management.
The new smartwatch boasts a sleek and slim design, featuring an ultra-narrow mechanical air cushion built into the strap and a 4.6-centimeter (1.82-inch) square display. Compared to standard electronic blood pressure monitors, it takes up only one-fifth the width and twenty-five percent the volume, ensuring comfortable and convenient blood pressure measurement anywhere, anytime.
The black or gold version comes with a fluoroelastomer strap, a sweat-resistant and skin-friendly material that ensures all-day comfort. It is also available with a stylish cream-colored leather strap. It connects effortlessly to any smartphone running Android or iOS, allowing easy access to its advanced features for a wide range of users.
