Hygge isn't (just) a cup of tea – it's the science of comfort that you can recreate at home

Autumn calls for shelter – create it with warmth, textures and a little Nordic magic

When we pull our knitted socks out of the closet with the first chill and the smell of roasted chestnuts begins to waft, we know that the season is approaching, in which the word hygge is almost a mandatory addition to every sentence. But be careful: hygge is not just that Insta moment with tea and a book in your lap. It is a philosophy of life – the science of comfort that embraces you like the softest blanket, without losing the designer's sense of aesthetics. And the good news? You can recreate it at home without any major drama.

What is hygge – and why do we all love him so much?

The Danish concept of hygge (pronounced something like “hju-gah”) is more than a trend. It’s a feeling. A combination of inner peace, coziness, warmth, and aesthetics, achieved through a calming atmosphere, carefully selected materials, natural tones, and details that tell a story.

As the Danes would say: hygge is when you're with friends and no one is holding a phone. Or when you're wrapped in a wool blanket and listening to the rain.

Interior 2025: more character, fewer rules

This year's fall design season does not dictate strict rules, but invites playfulness. Instead of a complete renovation, the emphasis is shifting to thoughtful details that breathe soul into a space. The key is not in expensive pieces, but in how we combine them – each element should tell something about your lifestyle. Fall encourages creativity without limits; it allows for mixing styles, playing with materials and compositions, and creating an ambiance that doesn't look like something from a showroom, but like a place where you really live.

When furniture becomes sculpture

Forget about strict lines. Autumn 2025 brings roundness – in furniture, thinking and space layout. JYSK's new furniture collection impresses with oval sofas that look as if they have just escaped from a modern art gallery.

Modular models allow you to play with the layout – deckchairs, open ends, a corner for lunch, reading or Netflix marathons. And if you've always dreamed of a chair that looks like an abstract sculpture? Voilà – JYSK has the answer.

Material contrasts that warm

Fall is the season of contrasts. Cool chrome details are elegantly balanced with the warmth of wood and stone. Dining tables with travertine finishes add a touch of luxury to the space without emptying the bank account, while massive wooden chairs they create a solid foundation for long evenings with good food (and even better conversations).

Textiles: the secret weapon of warmth

If you want to create a feeling hygge without major investments – start with textiles. Blankets, pillows, rugs – this is an arsenal of warmth. Combine different textures – soft knits, linen, jute and cotton. The autumn palette dictates colors such as rust, mustard, dark green and warm beige tones.

Carpets with ethnic patterns or thick woven structures bring visual depth and physical warmth. JYSK's new collections are designed for autumn layering - simple but effective.

The smell of home

There is no hygge without the right scent. Woody undertones, cinnamon, sandalwood, vanilla or fresh cedar – all of these create an atmosphere that is soothing and embracing. Scented candles, essential oils or diffusers with natural essences are not just a detail, but emotional anchors of the home atmosphere.

5 quick tips for maximum hygge effect:

  1. Rounded shapes: The sofa, the chair, the lamp – everything should have soft edges. The space will feel friendlier (and a bit more “Scandi”).
  2. Layers of warmth: A blanket on the couch, a rug on the floor, a pillow on your lap – layering isn't just for clothes.
  3. Natural materials: Wood, stone, wool, jute. They bring a sense of connection with nature – even if you live in an apartment building.
  4. Light in Danish: More soft lighting. Lights should be not only functional, but atmospheric. (And no ceiling lights, please.)
  5. A story in every corner: Don't strive for perfection - strive for personality. It's better to be interesting than sterile.

When the temperatures drop, make your home a haven. You don't need a weekend in the countryside – with smart decorating and the right amount of hygge, everyday space can be transformed into an experience.

JYSK's autumn collection invites you to indulge in an atmosphere that is not only aesthetic, but also emotional. And don't be surprised if your guests stay a little longer than you expected - your home will become the definition of comfort. Just tell them to bring their own cup of tea.
