The Hyundai Kona keeps its naughty design and at the same time gave up the internal combustion engine. This made it the first electric compact crossover in the world. In order to satisfy the widest possible range of customers, the electric Kona will be available in two versions, with different power, different maximum range and, of course, two different prices.
Entrance Hyundai Kona Electric it has an electric motor with power 133 horsepower and immediate 395 Nm of torque. It has 39.2 kWh battery, which is sufficient for up to 300 kilometers of travel distance. These measurements are made according to the new WLTP measurement standard, which represents a significantly improved version of the NEDC measurement standard. The first represents the global light vehicle testing system, while the second represents the new European driving cycle. Another version of the electric Kona has an electric motor with 201 horsepower and also immediate 395 Nm of torque. It has a much bigger one 64-kWh battery, which increases the possible distance traveled to a little more than 470 kilometers after the WLTP measurement standard.
When the battery is discharged, the one with a lower capacity will need to be charged for approx 6 hours and 10 minutes, and the one with a higher capacity approx 9 hours and 40 minutes. But don't worry, this is only in the case that you will be charging the electric Kona at a normal, household socket. If we use 100-kW DC fast charger, both batteries will be for 80 % refills took 54 minutes. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h it is with a weaker model 9.3 seconds, and 7.6 seconds with a stronger one. Both versions of the Kona have top speed 167 km/h.
With all the space occupied by batteries, there is no fear of running out of them. Kona's new platform allowed engineers to arrange the batteries in a way that doesn't restrict interior space. The luggage compartment is large 373 liters, but when we put the power cable in it, it is reduced to 332 liters. The exterior was almost completely carried over from the classic Kona with an internal combustion engine. Changes are noticeable in the rims, closed front mask and aerodynamic improvements. Inside we have a completely digital one 7-inch instrument display and a few more pieces of additional equipment compared to the "classic" Kona.
