Icelanders with 3D-zebra to drive slower and more carefully

We can safely admit that the traffic culture is almost stereotypically much better in the northern part of Europe than here. The reason for this is a combination of various factors, which we will not deal with now. We will rather look at what they have done to increase traffic safety in an Icelandic city, and maybe it will inspire us too.

In the small fishing town of Ísafjörður, located in the northwest of Iceland, those responsible for security came up with an extraordinary idea that increased pedestrian safety when crossing the road.

They are a pedestrian crossing, a zebra drawn in 3D technique. This one creates optical illusion, as the driver has the feeling that wide white lines somehow float above the ground and represent for him physical barrier. The crossing is not only safer, but also more fun, as it gives pedestrians the feeling to walk on air. He is the initiator of the idea Ralf Trylla, the city's environmental commissioner, who saw a similar project in India's New Delhi.

Is it time for something like this on our roads too?
