IKEA presents a collection that turns your home into a colorful playground for young and old

When was the last time you played? Not with a phone or a remote control, but really played – with things that spark curiosity, challenge your imagination and make you laugh involuntarily? IKEA believes that play belongs not only to children, but to all generations – and with this in mind, the new GREJSIMOJS collection was created, opening the door to a world where everyday objects are anything but ordinary.

This 33-piece collection is not just furniture or home accessories – it’s a creative outburst that blurs the line between functionality and fantasy. From mouse-shaped speakers, stools with hidden monsters, to the furry MAMMUT chair in electric pink – GREJSIMOYS brings playfulness to where we least expect it: into the living room of the adult world. And that’s exactly its magic.

When furniture decides to play hide-and-seek with conventions

GREJSIMOIS (yes, you read that right – it means something along the lines of “that-for-something”) is not just a collection. It’s an imaginative explosion, based on findings from the IKEA Play Report, which clearly shows that play is not just a children’s luxury, but a biological necessity – and, let’s face it, a much more fun alternative to endlessly scrolling through your phone.

At GREJSIMOJS, functionality and playfulness are not mutually exclusive – they embrace like old friends on a cat-shaped sofa. Yes, you read that right. In this collection, you’ll find speakers shaped like mice, storage units shaped like cats (that almost beg for a belly rub) and stools that hide… monsters. Good-natured ones, of course. And if you think you’ve just fallen into the world of Alice in IKEAland, you’re absolutely right.

MAMMUT goes to the carnival

We all know the MAMMUT children's chair - that plastic, durable symbol of Scandinavian childhood. Well, now it's got a furry upgrade, and in shades that even a disco diva would approve. Pink or blue fur gives it new life and brings a pinch of provocation to the space - because who says a children's corner can't be glamorous?

Design with the eyes of a child and the intuition of an adult

The designers had complete creative freedom with this collection. Some drew from memories of objects they were not allowed to touch as children (and are now finally allowed to design), while others followed function and took the everyday to the extraordinary. This is how the magical night light was created – which could easily be mistaken for a giraffe thanks to its long neck and friendly expression.

“GREJSIMOIS is meant to be a visible piece of furniture at home – even when the children are asleep,” says Anna Granath, and the collection’s identity follows two perspectives: an adult who appreciates aesthetics, and a child who sees the rug as a savannah worth exploring on all fours.

Play as a serious task

And no, GREJSIMOIS is not just a product of imagination and color palettes. It is based on real research. The IKEA Play Report revealed that more than half of parents want to play more with their children, but are limited by time, space and – most importantly – inspiration. And that’s where GREJSIMOIS comes in as a silent revolutionary who says without words: “Hey, I’m here – and I’m fun!”

Maria Törn, head of children's programming at IKEA, explains that play shouldn't be another task on a parent's already busy list, but a natural part of the home - organic like a houseplant, except you don't need to water it.

Five ways to play, five reasons to GO

The collection is based on the concept IKEA Playtypes, which identifies five types of play: exploration, creation, imagination, movement and competition. All items in the collection are designed to appeal to at least one of these. And if the interactivity doesn't entice you, the colors, textures and pure, undeniable fun will.

Because in a world where everything is (too) often serious, we need a collection that lets us be... a little less. That says: "Come on, sit on a furry MAMMOTH and pretend you're in a spaceship for a few minutes." Even if you have an important Zoom call tomorrow at nine.
