IKEA x Gustaf Westman: A collection that will turn your celebration into an interior spectacle

The new Home of Celebration collection

Forget the old, traditional holiday decorations – the new Home of Celebration collection, a collaboration between IKEA and Swedish design star Gustaf Westman, brings joy, playfulness and design boldness to everyday life. Even if it's "just Thursday".

Who says you need a reason to celebrate? IKEA and the design enfant terrible Gustaf Westman have joined forces on a collection that breaks the rules of holiday decor – and with a smile. Their fresh 12-piece collection Home of Celebration is a tribute to the moments we create ourselves: without rules, without obligations and, thank God, without napkins with elves.

From porcelain plates and cups to playful lamps and candlesticks, the collection invites you to create an atmosphere where every day can be a holiday. And not just because of its aesthetic excess, but because of its philosophy that encourages genuine socializing and joy. Without the olive branches of coercion.

Holidays with a Twist: When IKEA Meets Westman Playfulness

For Gustaf Westman, this is his first product collaboration with another company – and let's face it, if you're jumping into the world of mass production, IKEA is the only sensible stepping stone. Collection Home of Celebration is also part of IKEA's winter line VINTERFINT 2025, but it stands out pleasantly from it - like someone who shows up to Christmas dinner in a pastel pink dress and pulls it off with complete confidence.

“Celebrations are often caught up in tradition, but we wanted to explore something more playful and inclusive,” says Maria O'Brian, IKEA's head of collection development. “Gustaf's approach to color and form fits perfectly with our vision – fun, unexpected, and warm at the same time.”

Westman is known for his rounded, almost sculptural shapes and colors that are not afraid of childish boldness. In the collection, he combines traditional festive red and green with surprises like bubblegum pink and soft blue. Festive punk in porcelain, that is.

What will you find in the collection?

Porcelain that thinks outside the box

The plates in dark green and candy pink are square, with a rounded center that softens them. Minimalist, with a designer twist. As Ikea would say: “We can have it all – order and chaos.”

And then there is meatball plate – yes, you read that right. IKEA’s famous meatball is celebrating its 40th anniversary and has been given its own throne. The plate arranges the balls in a winning row, like the Olympic medals of Swedish cuisine. Westman adds: “It’s my version of tradition. A simple idea that celebrates the meatball – but it also works for grapes, cookies or… mini plum dumplings, if you’re feeling adventurous.”

Glögg cups – with space for grandma's cookies

The cup and saucer are designed for traditional Swedish glögg, but they have an extra trick up their sleeve – an oversized cookie plate. Inspiration? Westman’s grandmother and her shameless amount of holiday pastries. “Fika, but in style,” the Swedes would say.

Let there be light – and form

The collection includes candlesticks that continue the square-rounded aesthetic of the plates. But the star of the lighting piece is portable lamp, which, when rotated, transforms from a minimalist capsule into an expanded, almost space-like object. Yes, a lamp that transforms – practically the Transformer of the decor world.

For those who swear by the classics but like it a little "wild", here is a reinterpretation of the traditional Swedish window light in the form of a modern candelabra. Festive spirit - without the nostalgia for waxy fingers.

A bouncing vase

The final jewel of the collection? A vase made of a metal spiral that hugs a glass container. Sculptural, playful and – let’s face it – slightly unnecessary, but in the most fun way. “The endless shape gives the object more life,” says Westman. And it’s true – this vase is not just a vase. It’s a conversation piece, it’s a tribute to flowers that are no longer in top shape, and at the same time a statement: Even unnecessary things have their place – especially if they look like a designer mattress.

Conclusion: Celebrating a new era – with a smile

Collection Home of Celebration will be available from September 2025 – but beware, stocks will vary by market. IKEA and Gustaf Westman have created a collection that is not just another set of “Christmas” items, but a true designer invitation to celebrate without excuses.

Whether it's brunch with your best friends, an unexpected visit from the neighbors, or an evening when you simply want to eat meatballs off an elegant plate - this collection will remind you that you can invent your own holiday.

And guess what? IKEA is now giving you the perfect excuse to finally have that “unchristian” Christmas. And in style.
