Have you ever bought a speaker just because it was functional – and then hid it behind a bookshelf or sofa? Home electronics are often designed with neutrality in mind, to blend in with their surroundings. But what if technology could become part of the decor, not just a necessary accessory? IKEA has the answer!

In collaboration with renowned Swedish designer and colorist Tekla Evelina Severin, better known as Teklan, IKEA brings a fresh perspective to home electronics. Together, they create a collection of products where color and pattern take center stage – and not just as an aesthetic addition, but as a key element that will fill your home with energy and character.

When a speaker becomes a piece of art

The first result of this collaboration is a redesigned version of the portable Bluetooth speaker VAPPEBY, now available in bold color combinations. Designed for multi-purpose use, this speaker is waterproof, portable, and delivers up to 80 hours of playback – but now it will also become a stylish accessory that you will want to display, not hide.

Teklan, renowned for its innovative use of color in interior design, emphasizes: “Color has incredible power – it can change our mood and the way we see everyday objects. With this project, I want to show how technology can become a natural part of the home, rather than something we want to hide.”

Colors that blend with furniture

Sara Ottosson, product developer at IKEA, adds: “We often think of electronics as something that needs to be functional, not aesthetically pleasing. By collaborating with Tekla, we are exploring how design and color can make home technology more personal and tailored to an individual’s style.”
