Misbehavior of tourists: We expect everyone to speak English

A common mistake is to expect all locals to speak English. Although English is a widely spoken language, it is not considered an official language in many countries, so assuming that everyone knows it can be disrespectful. And completely wrong. As a traveler, it's a good idea to learn basic phrases and understand the local language, as this will help you communicate effectively and show respect for the local culture.

Misbehavior of tourists: We assume that everything is open all day

In addition to cultural sensitivity, it is important to be aware of local customs and working hours. For example, some shops and restaurants may be closed at certain times of the day. In Spain or Italy trade in time "siesta" close their doors, and many restaurants only serve food in the afternoon. Knocking on windows expecting the restaurant owner to open the door and prepare a delicious paella or pizza is rude to say the least.

A common form of inappropriate behavior is also that we do not properly educate ourselves about local culture and customs before traveling. Different cultures have different norms and expectations, so it is important to understand and respect them. This includes practically everything from greetings to appropriate clothing in public. But more about that in the next paragraph. For example, in the US it is impolite not to leave a tip. Japanese people, on the other hand, will be amazed if you leave a tip.
