Incognito: The 86th Annual Production of the Academic Folklore Group of France Marolt

The annual production of the best Slovenian folklore ensemble is coming, in which more than 75 dancers, musicians and singers participate. Here comes Incognito, the 68th annual production of the Academic Folklore Group of France Marolt. The folklore spectacle, which will show something that has not been shown before, will premiere on May 14, 2016 in the Linhart Hall of Cankarjev dom.

Incognito, 68th annual production Academic folklore groups of France Marolt will take place on May 14, 2016 on the stage of the Linhart hall of Cankarjev dom presented lesser-known and even completely newly reconstructed masks of the Slovenian ethnic territory, and with them a unique dance of the devil, demons and other creatures.

Mask and dance. They seem to be from different worlds, but we can draw quite a few parallels between them. With the latter, a person can express what he often hides in everyday life. It exists both for the mask and for the dance something mysterious. This has always aroused fear and resistance in various authorities. The mask and the dance were phenomena that were supposed to awaken lust in people, return them to paganism or seduce them into ecstasy.

Both are said to originate from the world of the devil, but nevertheless contain a kind of paradox. Even today, all the bans and demonization cannot prevent that feeling of "irresistibly attractive" that resides in both of them. We stay in them something incognito, unknown.

Pushing boundaries in folklore and dance activities has always been the guiding principle of the largest and one of the oldest Slovenian folklore groups in our country, Academic folklore groups of France Marolt. Due to the desire to spread and approach choreographic folklore creation to young people, artistic director Dr. Tomaž Simetinger learned this year dance incubator. As part of this, six young folklore re-enactors created, each of whom prepared their own stage set for this year's annual dance performance.
