An Inuk's Journey is a warm and authentic account of growing up in contemporary Greenland, a land torn between tradition and modernity.
Nuuk it is the capital of Greenland, where the sixteen-year-old lives Inuka. His difficult life is marked by his alcoholic mother, so the social service sends him north to a children's shelter on a small island in the middle of the arctic sea. There Inuk meet Ikumo, the great polar bear hunter, who takes the boy along with other children on an annual hunting expedition with dog sleds. On epic journey through the frozen wilderness, Inuk must face his past and find a way to the future.
It inspired the story the work of the famous Greenlandic explorer Ole Jørgen Hammeken and his wife Ann Andreasen, who run a shelter for Inuit children in the town Uummannaq, five hundred kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. Spouses use it as one of the therapeutic tools in their work with children dog sled expeditions - so called "ice therapy". In the film, Hammeken played the role of the hunter Ikuma, and in addition to him, children from the home and local seal hunters also appeared.
We can watch the movie in Kinodvor, from December 16 further.
