In the historical drama, we meet the English King George VI, the father of the current Queen Elizabeth II, who takes the British throne after his brother's unexpected abdication. Struggling with stuttering, he turns to the controversial speech therapist Lionel for help, and despite the strange therapies, a genuine friendship develops between them. But the start of World War 2 puts George in front of a new test, as he must use his example to unite and encourage the British people.
