Kvarner - the island of Krk & Lošinj

Island of Lošinj

Kvarner, a popular destination of the northern Adriatic, invites all nature lovers, adventurers and lovers of cultural heritage to various unforgettable experiences. Kvarner covers more broadly the part of the Adriatic Sea between the Vinodol-Velebit coast and Istria. The beautiful Kvarner islands of Krk, Rab, Cres and Lošinj are also located in this part. Diversity is the characteristic of Kvarner that represents it in its essence.

The island of Krk

Krk is and is not an island - it is separated from the land by the sea, but connected by a 1,430 m long bridge. In the era of antiquity, it was called the "golden island" because of its special features. It is also characterized by the fairytale number seven, as it was inhabited by Croats in the 7th century, it successfully defended itself against pirates seven times, and today it has seven main centers.

This year's novelty, which is definitely worth a visit, is underwater pirate park in the city of Punat, which in an innovative way combines the experience of the underwater world and the real pirate experience of discovering "underwater treasures". The park (so far) includes seven different "treasures" that bear witness to the rich history of the island and are placed at a depth of 3 to 5 meters. If we decide on this kind of adventure, we will only need a swimsuit and a towel, as we will be given a special helmet that allows us to walk underwater.

Island of Lošinj

Lošinj has an extremely rich natural and cultural heritage. Churches, monasteries, Renaissance buildings, basilicas and other sites from antiquity can be found all over the island and testify to the rich cultural wealth. The Lošinj archipelago, which stretches for 220 km, is perfect for various water and underwater sports.

Lošinj Underwater Historical Park is unique in this part of Europe. It is located on Mali Lošinj, in Čikat cove and is part of the Diver diving center. In a fun and above all in a different way, it takes us through the rich history of Lošinj, where at a depth of 5m to 15m, we discover important historical exhibits found on the island or the region. While admiring the underwater world, we can admire replicas of cannons from the 16th century, replicas of ancient amphorae, an anchor from the 4th century, engine rooms from the 2nd World War, and the main attraction – a replica of the ancient bronze statue of the athlete Apoximen, which is also the symbol of Mali Lošinj. Even inexperienced divers can discover the treasures of the underwater world through the "Discovery dive" program. The park is open from June to September every day from 8 am to 8 pm. Advance notices are required for inexperienced divers.
