This year marks the 370th anniversary of the birth of Janez Vajkard Valvasor. In addition to part of the permanent exhibition that opened in May 2011 at his home, Bogenšperk Castle, we will be celebrating his year
will be accompanied by a lecture. Valvasor will be presented in the context of the 17th century and as a man for whom research was almost a lifestyle. The lecture will present his research on Lake Cerknica, the Ljubelj Tunnel, the casting of bronze statues in one piece, and his role as a publisher, printer, and book writer. The lecture will also be dedicated to his library, collection of paintings and prints, astronomical and geodetic tools, which is why his Bogenšperk castle is said to be the predecessor of today's museums.
