If you like camping or going on a multi-day trip, the LifeStraw should become your must-have. It is intended for drinking water from any water source in the middle of nature. The water filter inside works with hollow fiber technology and eliminates harmful organisms down to 0.2 microns in size. We tested the LifeStraw and we guarantee it works!
We found a stream with cloudy water in the vicinity of Ljubljana. Despite the low level, you couldn't see the ground. Water that even a domesticated animal in its right mind would not drink. Because I took over LifeStraw straw test for CityMagazine, I probably don't have that common sense, so of course I tried drinking water from a dirty stream. Surprisingly, the straw did its job very well and it flowed out the other end clean drinking water, without any aftertaste.
The method of use is completely simple, also suitable for small children. Dip the bottom end of the straw into the water you want to drink and suck through the other end - almost as easy as drinking through a regular straw. I say "almost" because at the beginning it is necessary to pull quite hard a couple of times. However, once the water flows through, it doesn't take much effort to drink.
LifeStraw removes almost all bacteria (99.9%) and protozoa (99.9%) from contaminated water and reduces water turbidity by filtering sediment particles. However, I must point out that so far the LifeStraw does not filter heavy metals or viruses that are smaller than 0.2 microns, nor can it desalinate water. If you are planning to travel to countries where the water is likely to contain viruses and similar impurities, then LifeStraw is not the best choice. It is also not suitable for drinking sea water.
LifeStraw straw filters up to 1000 liters, depending on the water quality. It has already won many awards for its innovative water filtration technology and has helped save many lives in countries affected by natural disasters.
In my opinion, the LifeStraw is a must-have piece of gear for all travel, camping, hiking, and anywhere space and weight are at a premium. A straw weighs only 56 grams and measure 22.5 centimeters in length and 2.5 centimeters wide. Overall, the LifeStraw does the job and is one of the best water filters we can buy at such a great price!
