On the occasion of the 550th anniversary of the (arch)diocese of Ljubljana, the special exhibition prepared by the Archdiocese Archives in Ljubljana presents the main milestones of its rich history in pictures and words on seventeen themed panels. We will learn about the role and importance of the Benedictine abbey in Gornji Grad, which the emperor and the pope dedicated as a material basis for the diocese of Ljubljana. Then followed the establishment of the Ljubljana diocese (Pope Pius II on September 6, 1462, Emperor Frederick III on December 6, 1462), the growth and development of the diocese, and Protestantism. It is also about the Catholic renewal and re-Catholicization of Inner Austria, culture and science. The Archdiocese of Ljubljana was first renovated in 1788, and soon after that the establishment of the Illyrian Provinces followed, where the Archdiocese of Ljubljana took its place as part of the Illyrian Metropolis. The flourishing of Catholic life from the middle of the 19th century onwards, religious life until the Second World War, the tragedy of the Second World War and the reconstruction after it are presented. The exhibition concludes with the founding of the Ljubljana Metropolis in 1968 and its renovation in 2006. Charitable and missionary activities, the development of religious life and education are also summarized. The picture and the word are complemented by a selection of liturgical objects, vestments and prince-diocesan insignia.
