Milan-based design house Zagato has unveiled its latest one-of-a-kind creation, the Zagato Maserati Mostro, which has a reason why it's called a monster. This individual and limited-quantity restoration of Maserati is dedicated to the centenary of this "trident" of the aristocratic car brand and the original monster, Frank Costino's 1957 Maserati 450S Coupe, nicknamed Mostro.
First, let's see what inspired it Maserati Mostra, designed by the famous Milanese design house Confused. For that you have to go back to the year 1957. On request Stirling Moss was then hired by the Italian sports car manufacturer Maserati Frank Costino, to design a coupe body shell for model 450 S, to be able to race on 24 Hours of Le Mans. Unfortunately, due to mechanical problems, the car did not perform well and did not finish the race. However, we can think of another reason why the new car deserved it nicknamed the monster.
First of all, it sounds like a monster. It has mid-mounted V8 engine, which can do more than 400 horsepower and under the baton (read six-speed semi-automatic transmission) arranges a concert on wheels, as if performed by wild animals. Secondly, he was an "animal" in himself, because he was built like a racing car, but then adapted for ordinary road. So you can expect a lot carbon fiber. And indeed. The bodywork is made entirely of carbon, and there is a lot of it in the chassis as well. It was presented at the event Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este by Lake Como in Italy.
