Oscar Diggs is an inconsequential circus handballer who must escape from dusty Kansas to the wonderful, colorful land of Oz due to dirty deals and exposure. There, at first, he thinks that he has hit the jackpot, because fame and fortune offer themselves to him. Until he meets three witches, Theodora, Evanora and Glinda, who are not convinced that he really is the mighty wizard that everyone has been waiting for. At first, against his will, the flow of events pulls him into the vortex of fate that plagues the land of Oz and its inhabitants. But soon he realizes that he must find out who is evil and who is good, and find the latter in himself. With some magic, illusion and a lot of will, Oscar is reborn into a powerful and influential magician and, above all, into a better person. The film adventure is based on the characters and performances of the writer L. Frank Baum and is a precursor to the popular literary work The Wizard of Oz.
