Soon the 3rd Migrant Film Festival - June 18-22, 2012
More than 25 genre-diverse films, round tables with interesting interlocutors, intercultural events that connect us in a social and fun way, music and the cinematic view of young people from the Balkans on migration are the events that round off the Migrant Film Festival and enable you to this year, for five days a year, you are not only migrating through Ljubljana's film locations, but also through the origin of your beliefs and prejudices.
Slovenian philanthropy and Voluntariat Institute will be this year's World Refugee Day (June 20) marked the third edition of the Migrant Film Festival, dedicated to all refugees and migrants of this world.
This year's selection of domestic premieres, immortal classics and hidden trumps of international "migrant film" production will also be diverse and rich. It will offer more than 25 genre-diverse films, each in its own unique way they record on film the traces left behind by migrants in search of a new, better life.
We will accompany the festival on its way through Ljubljana's venues June 18 in Kinodvor with the projection of the brilliant portrait of modern economic migrations, drawn by the British director Ken Loach in the film "The Free World". With us you will be able to migrate up to June 22, the route will take us from the City Museum to the Slovenian Cinematheque, between the ZRC Atrium and the ŠKUC Gallery, and finally we will arrive at the summer garden of Gala Hale (AKC Metelkova). The trump cards include the feature-length documentary by Tom Križnar and Maja Weiss The ears and eyes of God, Everyone else is called Ali by Rainer Fassbinder, In the land of bears Nike Autor and Meervi Junkkonenov Life After - 4 Stories of Torture and many others!
This year's program scheme contains a new thematic section dedicated to (local) film production, which runs alongside the festival and represents its additional dimension. A series of six short films featuring them will be premiered young authors from Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia researched migration in their local environment.
Within round tables and conversations will focus on economic migration and undocumented migrants, female migration, Europe's role in protecting refugees from war zones and the experiences of young filmmakers in researching migration through film. Guest experts, international filmmakers and activists will share with the audience their insight into contemporary migration trends, opinions on the causes and consequences of migration, and present their personal experiences related to the selected topics.
This year's FMF will also serve the rich festival events. We will dedicate it to getting to know different cultural traditions and their interweaving and fusion in today's multicultural societies. We will get to know the (sometimes unnoticed) cultural diversity of our environment through musical and singing performances, listening to stories from other places and tasting traditional culinary masters from different cultural backgrounds.
Between June 18 and 22, migrant stories will resonate throughout Ljubljana. Get to know them.
You are welcome. Entry is free to all film screenings as well as other festival events!
